Success

Asides from all the work and projects that we get, I love AP English Literature because of my wonderful teacher, Mr. Wade Varieur. That man is so insightful and thought provoking. We were having a discussion about success and what it means after doing our A Raisin in the Sun and Death of Salesman plays, both social criticisms about the meaning of success. The world views success as money. Is it true that money does not equal happiness? Yes. But in the back of our minds, that's exactly what we think. Oh, but going to this school will get me a higher paying job. Oh, I wish that I had his job, it pays so much better. When will I get my next paycheck? How much does that hot new item cost? Will I have enough money?

Mr. Varieur said something that struck me, and I'm sure a lot of others in the class. You live your life working until you are 65. Going through the same mundane days. Wake up, go to work, come home, sleep. Rinse and repeat. What for!? To live 5 years of retirement to do what you really love, then die? Where is the meaning of life in that? I'd rather live my whole life doing what I love to do. Why waste your life away so that you could earn the most money so that you could do what you love later. Because we all know that there will always be a later (sarcasm intended here). This is so mind boggling. So anti-what society tells us is right. Are we going to conform to this model society that is "right" or are we going to break out and truly live?

Yes, go to college. Don't think you can just not try in life and find successs. You have to put some effort in. After all, most say that college is where you "find yourself." After you go to college, decide on what you really want to do. I guess coming from an artist's point of view (musician and photographer), it is always good to have something to "fall back" on just in case your job doesn't get you by in life. Yes, money is important to some degree, but not wasting your life over.

I'm still going to go to the best college that I can possbily go to. I'm going to continue to do my best. But I'm going to be doing what I love. Hopefully, I will make bank at the same time, but I sure hope that I don't live for the sake of money. That's stupidity. Cause once you have all that money, it will only get you so far.
